How OIUF Supported the First World Uveitis Day

The inaugural World Uveitis Day on April 10, 2026 marked an important milestone in bringing global attention to a condition that remains widely underrecognized. As part of a broader coalition of organizations committed to improving awareness, education, and patient support, the Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation (OIUF) was proud to support this first-of-its-kind initiative.

Amplifying Awareness Through Social Media

To support World Uveitis Day, OIUF shared educational content developed as part of the global campaign across our social media platforms, helping extend the reach of key messages and resources to our community.

In addition, OIUF contributed patient stories to the initiative, an area where our organization provided a unique insight. These stories offered a powerful, firsthand perspective on living with uveitis, complementing educational content with real-world experiences. By elevating patient voices, we aimed to highlight the variability of the disease, the challenges of diagnosis and treatment, and the resilience of those affected.

Contributing to a Global Conversation

In addition to our digital efforts, OIUF participated in a collaborative webinar on April 21, 2026 alongside organizations from around the world that helped organize World Uveitis Day. This event created a unique space for international voices, patients, advocates, and experts, to come together and share insights, experiences, and progress in the field.

During the webinar, OIUF contributed perspectives rooted in both patient advocacy and clinical understanding, helping to bridge the gap between lived experience and ongoing research. The discussion underscored the importance of global collaboration in improving outcomes for those affected by uveitis. Presentations on OIUF’s history and continued dedication to the field and patient stories were given by Dr. David Chu, MD (President of the Board) and Yasmin Massoudi (Community Engagement Coordinator), respectively.

Looking Ahead

The first World Uveitis Day demonstrated the power of collective action. By combining education, advocacy, and community engagement, the global uveitis community continues to raise awareness and drive meaningful change.

OIUF remains committed to supporting patients, advancing research, and working alongside partners worldwide to ensure that uveitis receives the attention it deserves,  not just on one day, but every day.
