The Uveitis Glossary defines some of the terms patients receiving care for ocular inflammatory disease will encounter during the course of their treatment. The information presented here is not intended to diagnose health problems or to take the place of professional medical care. Uveitis is a potentially blinding illness. We recommend that patients with ocular inflammatory disease establish a relationship with an ocular immunologist or uveitis specialist and consult with that physician before making any healthcare decisions.
The Uveitis Glossary was created by Dr. Liz Irvin, of the Uveitis/OID Support Group, to whom we are grateful. It is an ongoing project of the Uveitis/OID Support Group and the Ocular Immunology & Uveitis Foundation, C. Stephen Foster, M.D., Founder and President. We appreciate receiving comments about our efforts, including recommendations for new terms. Our special thanks to everyone who has contributed illustrations for the Glossary.
